  • Scott is a pancreatic cancer warrior. Since his diagnosis in 2023, he has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy as well as had surgery. Scott is currently receiving chemotherapy once again. He and his two daughters live in a rental home but being that he has been unable to work since his diagnosis, he has found it increasingly difficult to keep up with his rent and put food on the table for his family.

KWF was happy to be able to provide Scott with a financial grant to help pay his day-to-day bills and provide for his family. To our supporters, donors and sponsors, thank you for allowing us to make this grant possible for Scott.

  • Karen was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer in 2012 and has been battling a fierce fight ever since. Karen is unable to work due to mobility impairment as well as other health issues. She is also the sole full-time caregiver to her 94-year old mother, who is also a breast cancer survivor. Karen and her mother were recently unhoused and had to live in a hotel for quite awhile before finding temporary housing from a friend. She is unable to drive and must rely on others for transportation to receive her chemotherapy treatments. She and her mother struggle to afford basic necessities. KWF team member Sherri had the pleasure of meeting Karen and her mother, as she was able to present her with a financial grant in-person. Sherri has said that although Karen is battling a fierce and challenging fight, she is one of the most positive people I’ve ever met.

We thank all of you who have continued to support us. Without your generosity, we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

  • Devon is a breast cancer warrior that was diagnosed in early 2023. Since her diagnosis, she has undergone rounds of chemotherapy and has had several surgeries due to complications. Devon’s cancer treatments, multiple procedures and surgeries as well as all of the symptoms have caused her to take a leave of absence from her job. She has been unemployed since after her diagnosis, and has been struggling, as she’s fallen behind with her everyday household bills. She has stated that even though she has done her best to stay above water, the bills have been adding up over the past year.

KWF was happy to be able to help Devon by providing her with a financial grant to help pay her day-to-day bills. To our supporters, donors and sponsors, thank you for allowing us to make this grant possible for Devon.

  • Kowanna is a beautiful young woman who is battling brain cancer. Being such a young age, in her early 20’s, her diagnosis has been, not only emotionally difficult, but physically as well. She recently has had to resort to using a wheelchair and has lost vision in her left eye. She is currently living with her mother who is a single mom and accompanies her to every appointment and treatment. Kowanna has a strong support system with not only her mother, but her 3 sisters as well. It’s telling where Kowanna gets her strength from, as her mother is a fierce fighter for her daughter. Her entire family has helped keep her spirits up during her journey, which is so important. Kowanna is currently receiving proton therapy for her cancer.

Kowanna is unable to work due to her diagnosis, and her mother is also unable to work so she can focus on caring for her daughter.

KWF had the pleasure of meeting both Kowanna and her mother as we were able to present her grant in-person at the cancer center. This grant is not only a special one because of how special Kowanna is, but also because this grant marks Kittie’s Warriors 50TH grant since our inception in 2018.

When we met with Kowanna, we told her that she is our ‘GOLDEN GRANT’ and she smiled!

We were honored to be able to provide a financial grant to help Kowanna and her family during this difficult time.

We thank all of you who have continued to support us. Without your generosity, we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

On behalf of Kittie's Warriors Foundation and Kowanna’s family, thank you!

TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF CANCER PATIENTS!!

  • Monier is a young man in his 20’s who was recently diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. Monier is currently undergoing chemotherapy and has a long road ahead. Due to his treatments, Monier is unable to work, and unfortunately doesn’t have any benefits through his employer. Monier has 2 small children and is currently feeling very overwhelmed with both his cancer diagnosis as well as the concern of being able to provide and care for his children.

With the help of all of our wonderful donors and sponsors, we were able to lift a some of this burden from Monier and his family.

  • Duneea is a pancreatic cancer warrior who fell ill and was hospitalized 3 times before being diagnosed in late 2023. She is currently on a rigorous chemotherapy regimen that has left her feeling very weak and symptomatic. Duneea had worked as a caregiver to an elderly woman, however due to the weakness and symptoms of her cancer treatments, she is no longer able to care for this woman, which has been very hard on her emotionally. Duneea has 3 young children and her husband works full time to support their family; however, they are struggling to get by, not only week to week, but day to day.

As if navigating her cancer diagnosis isn’t difficult enough, she recently lost 2 close family members that she is grieving. Also, the apartment building where she’s living is being renovated, and their family was given a very short notice that they had to relocate into another apartment temporarily. Duneea has found stairs to be very difficult and has requested to be in a first-floor apartment; however, the landlord hasn’t been very accommodating and she ended up on the third floor instead. When KWF team member, Sherri, contacted Duneea just days before Christmas to present her with a financial grant, she became very emotional saying how much this meant to their family and how it will help them. She mentioned that they were living out of boxes. It was during this conversation that Sherri felt compelled to ask Duneea if it would be okay for her to drive out to hand-deliver the grant, so that she would have it before Christmas. Duneea was so happy and welcomed her to come. When Sherri arrived, a strong sense of emotion overcame her when she saw the conditions this family was living in. Duneea welcomed her with an immediate hug and offered her to sit down and visit, bringing her freshly brewed Turkish coffee. Sherri’s visit lasted over an hour and during the conversation is when it really hit and she realized just how much this grant would make a difference for this family. Duneea walked Sherri over to her boys bedroom showing her a small mattress on the floor that her children all slept together on. She said that they would most likely use part of the grant to buy another mattress and a bed for her kids. “It was truly heartbreaking, but I felt a sense of ease for this family, as I know this grant will help them tremendously”.

As Sherri was leaving, Duneea made her make a promise that she would come back and visit her soon.

Duneea is a beautiful warrior and a very special woman who has been through so much in the past few months.

We were honored to be able to provide a financial grant to help Duneea and her family during this difficult time.

We thank all of you who have continued to support us. Without your generosity, we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

  • Liam is a special 5-year-old little boy whom Kittie’s Warriors had the pleasure of meeting in person right before Christmas. When you see a child who is battling cancer, not fully understanding why he’s feeling the way he does or why he has to go through rigorous treatments at such a young age, it intensely tugs your heart strings. Instead of being a child enjoying the things that other children are able to enjoy, Liam has been battling Ependymoma, a form of brain cancer, since he was just 3 years old. Liam lives with his mother who brings him to the cancer center daily from Chicago early in the mornings so he can receive his proton therapy treatment. After treatment, his mother then drives him back to downtown Chicago to receive chemotherapy treatment as well. Liam’s mother is a single mom who is presently unemployed so she can support her son as he receives his treatments. Liam’s mom is very humble and gracious, and when asked about financial assistance, she didn’t ask for much. She indicated that making their rent payment has been challenging due to no income.

KWF decided that this little boy was so special that we wanted to not only be able to help his mother out so she can focus on caring for him, but we also recognized the need for lifting little Liam’s spirits as well. Hearing that Liam’s favorite things are baby Yoda and dinosaurs, KWF’s founder, Kristina, went Christmas shopping for Liam, purchasing arms full of Christmas gifts and wrapped each one individually. Liam is a very shy little boy whom we met after he completed his daily proton therapy. We were able to give Liam all the gifts, and although he was feeling quite sleepy from his treatment and didn’t have the energy to open the gifts himself, we helped him so he could see them. He was happy to receive all the toys that he could play with later. One of the special gifts Kristina bought for Liam was a warm and cozy dinosaur blanket. Liam’s eyes lite up when he saw that, which made our hearts full in the moment.

We were honored to be able to provide a financial grant to help Liam and his mom during this difficult time.

We thank all of you who have continued to support us. Without your generosity, we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

  • Annette is both a leukemia and breast cancer warrior. She is currently receiving intravenous chemotherapy treatments for her breast cancer as well as taking an oral chemotherapy for her leukemia. She is a single mother who lost her job and unfortunately has a very small support system of family and friends. Her social worker has said that she is a woman who is accustomed to being independent and has always been one to take care of others, therefore it has been difficult for her to ask for help. KWF team member, Sherri, had the pleasure of presenting Annette’s grant in-person, as she drove out to her home and visited with her for over an hour. Sherri has said that Annette is a beautiful woman with such a positive attitude.

The grant KWF was able to provide will assist Annette in getting some of her bills paid off.

We cannot thank our supporters enough for their generosity. With your help, we can truly make a difference in the life of cancer patients who are going through treatment.

  • Camaron is a young man in his 30’s that was diagnosed with colon cancer in June of 2023. Camaron’s treatments consist of surgery and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, Camaron has had several setbacks which has led to delayed treatments. Once he completes his chemotherapy, he will need an additional surgery due to the high rate of recurrence.

Camaron has be unable to work since his diagnosis and although he was at his place of employment for two years prior to falling ill, he doesn’t have any short-term or long-term disability benefits available to him. He is concerned as he has 6 children to care for. He has been on food stamps and has visited local food pantries to provide for his family.

KWF was happy to be able to provide Camaron with a financial grant to help pay his day-to-day bills and provide for his family. To our supporters, donors and sponsors, thank you for allowing us to make this grant possible for Camaron.

  • Although each and every grant recipient is very special to us, there’s always that ‘one’ that truly touches your heart in a profound way. This ‘one’ is Dennis. Dennis was diagnosed with both testicular and prostate cancer in early 2023. After his diagnosis, he began a regimen of rigorous chemotherapy treatments to shrink the tumors prior to surgery. Unfortunately, Dennis had quite a few complications resulting in 24-hour care and blood transfusions with inpatient hospital stays during his treatments.

KWF received an application on Dennis’ behalf requesting financial assistance to help provide some relief with rent, groceries and other essential needs. It was said that Dennis had been struggling financially since his diagnosis. His social worker had stated that Dennis has gotten by on a limited income, and is very frugal, but doesn’t have much disposable income left after his rent payment. He had worked as a handyman to make ends meet, however is no longer able to do so due to the symptoms of his cancer.

Dennis doesn’t have any family support, and lives alone, which can lead one to feel very lonely and depressed, especially when going through such a challenging time in their life. KWF’s team member, Sherri, made the phone call to present a financial grant to Dennis. After introducing herself and explaining the reason for the call, Dennis became very emotional saying that right before the phone rang, he was sitting at the edge of his bed praying that he will be able to make his rent and continue to maintain as minimal of a lifestyle as possible just to get by. Sherri spoke to Dennis for over an hour, and during the conversation, he mentioned an upcoming surgery and how nervous he was. It was at that moment that Sherri knew she wanted to do more for this kind and humble man on the other side of the phone. She jotted down the surgery date, and the night before, made another phone call to Dennis to wish him well and let him know that we were all praying for him as he went into his surgery the next morning. He was so grateful for that phone call, and once again, the conversation lasted over an hour. Sherri suggested ways for him to try to relax and ease his mind going into surgery, which he really seemed to appreciate.

Sherri and our founder, Kristina, decided that they wanted to go even a step further and go visit Dennis in the hospital after his surgery, so they put together a care package with a cozy blanket, a lucky little gnome, a small planter, coffee mug and a sign, each with inspirational words to remind him he’s not alone. Sherri and Kristina took a ride to downtown Chicago to visit Dennis. Unfortunately, the timing was not so good, and he was in an extreme amount of pain, so the visit was very short, but when Kristina pulled out that cozy blanket from the care package, his eyes lite up and he said how he loved it and that he had been so cold. Even though the visit was a short one, Dennis knew that there were people that cared for him and that’s one of the most important things for one to realize.

Sherri still stays in touch with Dennis from time to time and always does her best to comfort him. Truth be told though, Sherri has said that these conversations with Dennis have provided her with a sense of contentment as well.

We thank all of you who have helped us make this grant possible for Dennis.

  • Yvette was initially diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in August 2018. At that time, she was treated with chemotherapy. Unfortunately, in early 2019, Yvette’s cancer had progressed, and she began receiving a new chemotherapy treatment. Due to the metastatic disease, Yvette is seen regularly at the pain clinic.

As if this wasn’t difficult enough, Yvette recently was diagnosed with a malignant breast tumor. She underwent surgery, however developed an infection requiring her to make daily visits to the wound care clinic.

KWF received an application on Yvette’s behalf for financial assistance relating to transportation costs, as she has said, although minimal, she is unable to afford it. Yvette’s only source of income is social security disability as she is unable to work due to her cancer treatments. Her main concern is her rent, transportation, and utilities.

KWF was happy to be able to help ease Yvette’s burden and are only able to do so with your help. We cannot thank our supporters enough for their generosity. With your help we can truly make a difference in the life of cancer patients who are going through treatment.

  • Denise was diagnosed with endometrial cancer early 2023. After diagnosis, she underwent surgery and has since started daily radiation therapy. Denise is being cared for by a family member; however, they are unable to drive her to and from her treatments. KWF received an application to provide financial assistance for paratransit transportation for Denise. When our team member, Sherri, spoke to Denise’s social worker, she had mentioned that Denise had skipped some of her treatments to date due to not being able to arrange transportation. Understanding how essential these treatments are to battling this disease, we felt that providing a grant to help with her transportation costs was of importance.

With the help of all of our wonderful donors and sponsors, KWF was able to provide a financial grant to Denise to cover all of her transportation needs for the duration of her treatments, as well as to provide her with some additional financial assistance to help lift some of the burden from her life.

Sherri was able to have several telephone conversations with Denise after providing her with the grant, and she was very thankful for everything. She even mentioned to Sherri that she would like to help craft products along with our team to sell at future events. Denise has a big heart and we told her she is always welcome to come help our team anytime.

We thank all of you who have helped us make this grant possible for Denise.

  • Adelita was diagnosed with Large Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma early 2023. Due to the pain and fatigue associated with her diagnosis and treatment, she has been unable to work. Her husband works to pay their household bills as best as possible, however they have been struggling to keep up.

  • Travelle is a young man in his 30’s who was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of his external auditory canal initially in 2021. Unfortunately, Travelle had a recurrence recently and was referred to our foundation for financial assistance, as he is struggling with bills and is not able to work due to his cancer diagnosis. Although most of Travelle’s extended family lives out of state, he does have a family member temporarily providing housing and meals. His treatment consists of weekly chemotherapy along with daily proton radiation therapy. Travelle does not own a vehicle, and must rely on Medicaid to provide transportation to and from his daily treatments. Unfortunately, these transportation costs are quite expensive being that the place where Travelle is staying is over an hour away from the cancer center.

It was said that Travelle was always reluctant to ask for help, however really could use assistance to purchase his own food, daily necessities and over the counter medications that are required for radiation burns/rashes. Travelle also has a young child that he would like to buy a birthday gift for but doesn’t have the means to do so at this time.

Travelle is very thankful for the grant that we were able to provide, and we thank all of you who have helped us make this grant possible for Travelle.

He has been trying to get back on his feet while living in a hotel by delivering for a fast food delivery service as he’s able to do so. Laura underwent an invasive surgery to remove the cancer, and has since been unable to work. • Calling a grant recipient is never easy. Each person is going through their own battle. Even as survivors, you can only relate so much, as every journey is painfully unique for each individual.

This grant was much different than any other grant we’ve provided, as when we called, we were informed that Stanislaw had already found peace only days prior, after a battle with brain cancer.

KWF’s team member, Sherri, had made the phone call to provide the grant, and found herself unexpectedly awarding his grant to his wife, who was trying to navigate unknown waters after Stan’s passing.

If the story isn’t painful enough, his wife is also a cancer survivor and is currently going through her own health issues while trying to manage her household, her family and also grieve the loss of her husband.

We awarded this grant in Stan’s honor, because his family still needs and deserves the assistance in any way we can provide it.

On behalf of Kittie’s Warriors and Stan’s family, thank you.

  • When James originally fell ill, it was thought he had a heart infection. After transferring to another hospital and further testing, James was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

  • Daisy is a Head & Neck Cancer Warrior who is working full-time while undergoing treatment. Daisy lives in the city and needs to commute to the suburbs for treatment multiple times per week but doesn’t own a vehicle. The least stressful way for her to get to and from her appointments is to use services such as Uber, but that comes at a cost with how often Daisy needs to order a ride.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, some of the great foundations who have programs that provide free rides to cancer patients in need were suspended, so that wasn’t an option.

We were honored to be able to provide a financial grant to help Daisy with any transportation costs she may have to get back and forth to treatment.

We thank all of you who have continued to support us, without your generosity we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

On behalf of Kittie's Warriors Foundation and Daisy, thank you!

  • Teresina is a Breast Cancer Warrior going through treatment. She is currently unable to work due to the side effects of her treatment and struggles to make ends meet due to the unforeseen loss of income. Her two sons provide assistance with paying her bills as much as they can, but we wanted to help ease the burden on Teresina and her family.

We were honored to be able to provide a financial grant to help Teresina and her family during this difficult time.

We thank all of you who have continued to support us, without your generosity we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

On behalf of Kittie's Warriors Foundation and Teresina and her family, thank you!

  • Presenting William with a grant from KW was a bit different this time around than meeting our past grant recipients. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we decided in the best interest of everyone, especially William, that we were going to forgo the in-person presentation that we typically do and instead present him with the grant over the phone. It was hard for all of us, as we really wanted to meet William and he wanted to meet us, but we all understood it was for the best that we meet at a later point in time. Just talking to William over the phone, he was so thankful and appreciative of the support and without all of our supporters we wouldn’t have been able to provide him with this grant.

William has been having a rough time lately financially, as he cannot work due to his treatments and his sister and brother do what they can to help assist them in every way possible. They are such an amazing family and it was such a pleasure to talk to them. Even his social worker sent us an email letting us know how thankful he was and how he had come to her again to thank her for helping him apply for the grant. There were definitely some tears shed and this one truly meant a lot to everyone involved.

We thank all of you who have continued to support us, without your generosity we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

On behalf of Kittie's Warriors Foundation and William and his family, thank you!

  • On May 21, 2020 the KW crew drove out and took part in a welcome home parade for a little girl named Abigail. Most of us have seen drive-by parades for multiple occasions due to the current situation we are dealing with, but Abigail had well over 100 vehicles participate to welcome her home, which is rather impressive.

This is the third time Abigail has fought brain cancer and she has spent just over two months in the hospital recovering from her last surgery. Imagine for a moment how much this family is going through on a daily basis and how much Abigail has gone through in the short amount of time she's been on this earth. She has endured more than most and her courage and spirit are inspiring to so many people.

We felt deeply about trying to help this family as much as we could, and so, Abigail became the 16th grant recipient in just over the year we've been at this.

We told her she might need a bigger piggy bank.

We thank everyone who has continued to support us, without your generosity we wouldn't be able to provide these grants.

On behalf of Kittie's Warriors Foundation and Abigail's family, thank you!

Antonio is unable to work due to the side effects from his treatment and his employer offers no disability benefits. His wife works part-time and they are trying to make ends meet with only her income, but she also has to focus on helping Antonio when she isn’t trying to provide for their household. Antonio, as are all of our other patients, is such an inspiration to us.

KWF was happy to be able to help Antonio by providing him with a grant to help pay his day to day bills. To our supporters, donors and sponsors, thank you for allowing us to make this grant possible for Antonio.

  • In August of 2019, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer. Mary was working part-time during her treatments, but was let go by her employer because of the days she had to miss work due to her side effects and an allergic reaction she had from her treatment. She is able to collect social security, but what she is receiving is not enough for her to pay her daily bills and she has little support otherwise.

With the help of all of our wonderful donors and sponsors, we were able to lift a small burden from the life of Mary.

  • In June of 2019, Karen was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Her treatment was initially delayed due to an issue with her insurance.

Karen was working full-time, but has been unable to work due to the side effects she has experienced from her treatment. Her husband is currently working two jobs to try and provide for their family of four, but they are having difficulty keeping up with their daily bills.

With the help of all of our wonderful donors and sponsors, we were able to lift a small burden from the life of Karen and her family.

  • October 1, 2019 – This grant was not only special due to the fact that it was our ninth grant in just under a year, but we were able to give it on what would have been Kittie’s 69th birthday. As many of you know, KWF exists in the memory of Kittie and the fact that we were able to award a grant on her birthday was very special for all of us.

An application was submitted to KWF back in August for Katrena, a single mother of four children, three of them are triplets who were all diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Katrena was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and has already had surgery. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy with the possibility of more surgeries due to healing complications from her initial one.

Katrena is a school physical therapist, and if what she’s been going through isn’t hard enough, she is now on short term medical leave due to a broken hand that she suffered after she was knocked over in a crowded place. Being a physical therapist, Katrena is not able to perform her normal duties and is off until the beginning of November. Given the circumstances, she is having difficulty keeping up with the daily bills and medical bills for her and her children.

With the help of all of our wonderful donors and sponsors, we were able to lift a small burden from the life of Katrena and her family. Katrena is an amazing inspiration and we wish her and her family all the best now and in the future.

  • August 21, 2019 – With the help of the wonderful employees at Mr. Davids Flooring International, the Kittie’s Warriors Foundation was able to raise funds for a special grant for a three year old girl named Tinlee. In February, Tinlee was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has since had multiple blood transfusions, platelet transfusions and surgeries and is currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy infusions along with taking daily oral chemotherapy medication. Tinlee has responded well to her treatment, but has been unable to be a kid and cannot go out to public places or to school due to her compromised immune system. Tinlee will continue with her treatment until April of 2021.

Tinlee’s family reached out to Kittie’s Warriors because they were looking for assistance in bettering their environment at home since Tinlee will be spending so much time there. Along with a juicer to help with Tinlee’s nutrition, they wanted to purchase and install an air purification system and water purification system, but did not have the funds to do so. Kittie’s Warriors reached out to Matt at Pleasant Temps Heating & Cooling in Yorkville, IL for the air purification system install and Ron and Joe at Drip Drop Plumbing in Addison, IL for the water purification system install. Both of them generously offered their time to install the systems that were purchased for Tinlee’s family, driving outside of their normal service area to help. They were very professional, courteous and took extra care in making sure they kept Tinlee’s environment clean and safe while they performed their installs.

We wish Tinlee and her family all the best now and in the future and we thank each and every one of you for your continued support in our mission to help change tomorrow for these wonderful people that we are able to meet and help.

  • November 13, 2018 was a very special day for Kittie’s Warriors. It marked a new milestone as we got to meet Andrea. Andrea is a wife, mother, breast cancer warrior and also the very first grant recipient.

Cancer is unexpected and brings with it many challenges. Not only physically and emotionally, but also financially. For Andrea, this grant came at the perfect time. Not only did it help with her families day-to-day bills, but she also found out that her car was in need of critical repairs so she could travel to her appointments and treatments.
