GRANT #9 | KATRENA | BREAST CANCER WARRIOR
October 1, 2019 – This grant was not only special due to the fact that it was our ninth grant in just under a year, but we were able to give it on what would have been Kittie’s 69th birthday. As many of you know, KWF exists in the memory of Kittie and the fact that we were able to award a grant on her birthday was very special for all of us.
An application was submitted to KWF back in August for Katrena, a single mother of four children, three of them are triplets who were all diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Katrena was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and has already had surgery. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy with the possibility of more surgeries due to healing complications from her initial one.
Katrena is a school physical therapist, and if what she’s been going through isn’t hard enough, she is now on short term medical leave due to a broken hand that she suffered after she was knocked over in a crowded place. Being a physical therapist, Katrena is not able to perform her normal duties and is off until the beginning of November. Given the circumstances, she is having difficulty keeping up with the daily bills and medical bills for her and her children.
With the help of all of our wonderful donors and sponsors, we were able to lift a small burden from the life of Katrena and her family. Katrena is an amazing inspiration and we wish her and her family all the best now and in the future.
