Kittie’s Warriors Foundation Grant Program

Each year, the Foundation intends to make financial grants available to cancer patients who are currently undergoing treatment and who demonstrate a financial need. Cancer patients are considered by the Foundation and grants are awarded based their eligibility and need. To be considered for grant, a licensed social worker representing the patient must complete and submit an application which is reviewed in detail by the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

GRANT #9 | KATRENA | BREAST CANCER WARRIOR

October 1, 2019 – This grant was not only special due to the fact that it was our ninth grant in just under a year, but we were able to give it on what would have been Kittie’s 69th birthday. As many of you know, KWF exists in the memory of Kittie and the fact that we were able to award a grant on her birthday was very special for all of us.

An application was submitted to KWF back in August for Katrena, a single mother of four children, three of them are triplets who were all diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Katrena was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and has already had surgery. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy with the possibility of more surgeries due to healing complications from her initial one.

Katrena is a school physical therapist, and if what she’s been going through isn’t hard enough, she is now on short term medical leave due to a broken hand that she suffered after she was knocked over in a crowded place. Being a physical therapist, Katrena is not able to perform her normal duties and is off until the beginning of November. Given the circumstances, she is having difficulty keeping up with the daily bills and medical bills for her and her children.

With the help of all of our wonderful donors and sponsors, we were able to lift a small burden from the life of Katrena and her family. Katrena is an amazing inspiration and we wish her and her family all the best now and in the future.

GRANT #8 | TINLEE | ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA WARRIOR

(SPECIAL SPONSORS: PLEASANT TEMPS HEATING & COOLING | DRIP DROP PLUMBING)

August 21, 2019 – With the help of the wonderful employees at Mr. Davids Flooring International, the Kittie’s Warriors Foundation was able to raise funds for a special grant for a three year old girl named Tinlee. In February, Tinlee was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has since had multiple blood transfusions, platelet transfusions and surgeries and is currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy infusions along with taking daily oral chemotherapy medication. Tinlee has responded well to her treatment, but has been unable to be a kid and cannot go out to public places or to school due to her compromised immune system. Tinlee will continue with her treatment until April of 2021.

Tinlee’s family reached out to Kittie’s Warriors because they were looking for assistance in bettering their environment at home since Tinlee will be spending so much time there. Along with a juicer to help with Tinlee’s nutrition, they wanted to purchase and install an air purification system and water purification system, but did not have the funds to do so. Kittie’s Warriors reached out to Matt at Pleasant Temps Heating & Cooling in Yorkville, IL for the air purification system install and Ron and Joe at Drip Drop Plumbing in Addison, IL for the water purification system install. Both of them generously offered their time to install the systems that were purchased for Tinlee’s family, driving outside of their normal service area to help. They were very professional, courteous and took extra care in making sure they kept Tinlee’s environment clean and safe while they performed their installs.

We wish Tinlee and her family all the best now and in the future and we thank each and every one of you for your continued support in our mission to help change tomorrow for these wonderful people that we are able to meet and help.
